UK World Team Championships

Date: 17th October 2026

Location: Sherwood Pines Forest

Well, we’re almost there. The World Team Championships are back again this coming October, where for the first time, we’ll welcome the UK’s top 15 backyard runners to take part.

The 15 members of Team UK will include the 4 winners of the Silver Ticket Events plus the top 11 runners from the National Roster. The current roster status can be found on www.backyardultra.com under “2026 Team Championships”.

For those who are new to the World Team Championships (WTC for short), you will see every participating country around the world field a team of their best 15 runners. Every country’s race starts at the same time around the world, and they compete against one another to get the most combined yards for their country!

There are a few nuances for the event, but in a nutshell, every runner who finishes a yard adds it into the UKs team total. So if all 15 runners finish 10 yards, then the UK will have a total of 150 yards. Also, everyone who is in the first spot for their team will be competing with every other 1st places runner around the world. The same counts for the 2nd spot, 3rd spot, and so on.

The event always ends up being a nail-biter as every single runner in the team is as important as any other. When a teammate is struggling then it is in the best interest of any member of the team to keep them moving; supporting them can bring in untold yards for the team.

This year, the event will be taking place in Sherwood Pines Forest, and we will be inviting as many of you as possible to support the runners. We will have food and coffee vans, games and competitions to take part in, a hot dog eating competition, talks with backyard runners and race directors. Plus, if you haven’t yet taken part in a Backyard Ultra, then we’ll have the RDs from around the country available to chat with.

Not only that, but we have a big festival screen coming in so that you can watch the world and UK live streams and leaderboards without having to leave the venue! If that wasn’t enough, you may even get papped by the biggest photographer in ultra running, David Miller!

More information will be announced in due time.

As many of you know, the event is paid for by the organisers. Whilst we could put together a barebones event, I think most of you know we wouldn’t want to!

We have some amazing auctions, sales, games, and competitions for you all to take part in before the event goes ahead, with the intent of helping pay not only for the event to go ahead but to make it as big and as social as possible.
