Pierrepont Plod – Spring 2027

Pierrepont Plod – Spring 2027

This is a trail event and while it does include a stretch along the rowing lake, expect mud, roots and puddles.

The event will be a six-hour challenge on a looped course around the amazing Holme Pierrepont Country Park and Watersports center. You may attempt to complete as many laps as possible over the full six hours, or you may choose to finish just one. This is a perfect course if you’re aiming for a PB as it’s pretty flat with just the odd small lump to climb!

They don’t know that there’s a kraken in the lake, but WE’VE SEEN IT! It snatches runners on their way past and eats canoes for breakfast 👀

Holme Pierrepont is quite prone to flooding with areas and pathways closing and opening quite regularly through the wetter months. Because of this we have created two different 5.4km loops with two different starting points. One on the North side of the Regata rowing lake near the cafe and one starting from a car park to the south. While we will prioritise the south route, we will confirm in the weeks beforehand, which route we will use. Both are roughly 5.45km with 22m and 27m of elevation. Both can be seen bellow;

FAQs

Holme Pierrepont Country Park is located just east of Nottingham City Center. National Water Sports Centre, Adbolton Ln, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham NG12 2LU . For more information on the venue, including directions, accommodation, and more, please check out the Holme Pierrepont Infomation Page.

You’ll be able to pick up your race number on the morning of the event at the aid station/start line. The park will be open from 8am, and you’ll be able to grab your race numbers from 8.15 onwards. Please allow yourself enough time to grab your number before the race briefing at 8:55 am and the start of the run at 9am.

There is a time limit of 6 hours for this event. This means that you need to have completed your final lap before the end of the 6 hours for it to be counted towards your final distance. You will not be allowed to start another lap if you’ll be unable to finish before this time. Each lap is almost spot on 5.44km long which means if you complete 4 laps you have done a half marathon, and 8 laps will be classed as a Marathon and 9 an Ultra. You can finish your event at any time within the six hours, and as long as you have completed one lap then you will be classed as a finisher.

PLEASE NOTE:  This event is not a set distance but a 6-hour challenge event for you to complete as many laps of the course as possible within the time frame. Whilst you can run a half or a marathon with us, you’ll likely run a little further to complete the laps in the time frame. Please see below for a list of how far you’ll run for each number of laps

  • A fully unique and bespoke medal design just for this event.
  • All the food, drink, and nibbles that you could imagine at the aid station.
  • Dedicated first aiders on site for the full 6 hours.
  • Amazing support from the Rasselbock Family!

We will have a fully stocked aid station at base camp full of all your favorite items, although if you are expecting energy tablets, gels, and supplements, you may need to bring your own as our aid station tends to lean towards the more “enjoyable fuel”. Imagine Fudge, cakes, cookies, and jelly babies along with all the savory alternatives.

You are more than welcome to bring your own food and drink to the aid station. We will have a separate table for these so please make sure that your bottles or items are clearly labeled so that no one takes them by accident!

The route is 5.44km long (3.38 Miles) and runs along the pathways around the park and watersports area. Underfoot the route will mainly be compacted gravel pathways with a small amount through the wetlands which will be natural paths. You should be ok with road shoes throughout the whole route although trail shoes would be recommended if the weather has been wet beforehand. The route has the possibility of changing slightly depending on the centers’ needs at the time, but it will always be of the same length and character. You can view the route here.

We do not have any secure baggage areas on site but you are more than welcome to leave your bags at the base camp. Whilst we can’t guarantee that they’ll be safe, there will always be someone from Rasselbock around. If you are driving then please make sure that you leave any non essentials in your car.

We would recommend either road or trail shoes for this route, mainly due to it taking place in March and, let’s face it, there is a high chance that it’ll be cold and wet! So please make sure that you wear and bring with you adequate layers to keep yourself warm throughout the race and just as importantly, once you finish. Like all of our events going forward, we will be operating a bring your own bottle policy. We will not be supplying plastic cups or drinks receptacles at this event so that we can cut down on waste and do our part to help the environment. You will be required to bring your own water bottle, collapsible cup, or similar to the event. We will still have an array of liquids available for you to top up your bottles with at our well-stocked aid station!

The event will be taking place on and around an active watersports center that will still be open to the public. Runners will not have the right of way and we will need to be considerate to all the other users of the area, be it walkers, cyclists, sailors, dog walkers, kayakers, etc, when passing through any of the “activity areas” of the site. The updated 2024/25 route stays clear of the busier tourist areas, but please remain mindful of the public.

There will be some public toilets that will be open for our use (from 8 am) on the north of the regatta lake, but since the route does not pass this area, we will have a number of portaloos around the starting area.

Holme Pierrepont is located right next to the river trent and part of our route runs through the wetlands alongside it, as such, the whole venue is extremely prone to flooding in the wetter months. In the case of storms and heavy rainfall, a decision will be made in advance whether the event is to go ahead. If not then we will communicate this through emails, social medias and possibly in 2025 by text message.

On the rare occasion that the venue closes then we will find a new date to hold the event at, should you not be able to participate in the event on the new date then we will allow a deferral on your entry to any new event on our calendar.

So far in the four years of events at Holme Pierrepont, we have only had to postpone one event. It is a rare occasion, but we do like to be prepared.
